Wu Cheng'en's former residence: the birthplace of Journey to the West
吴承恩故居—《西游记》之诞生地
Wu Cheng'en's former residence is a national 5A-level tourist attraction, a key cultural relic protection unit in Jiangsu Province, also the shooting base of the world's first stereoscopic TV series Wu Cheng'en and Journey to the West. It is composed of five parts: the former residence, Wu's life exhibition hall, monk Tang Memorial Hall, Monkey King's Family Art Museum and the Studio for Liu Xiao Ling Tong. At present, it is the only place in China to comprehensively display the culture ofJourney to the West and commemorate Wu Cheng'en covering an area of 15,000 square meters and a building area of 4,000 square meters with an ancient Ming Dynasty style.
The former residence exhibits Wu's life and the environment for his creation of Journey to the West. The Monkey King Family Art Museum displays the monkey drama career of Liu Xiao Ling Tong’s four generations and art treasures related to monkey drama. The exhibition hall of Wu Cheng'en's life introduces Wu Cheng'en dynamically by using pictures, words, objects and multimedia technology. Wu's life story, the creative process of Journey to the West and its connection and influence with Huai'an local culture.
Wu Cheng'en's former residence is located in Datong Lane, Hexia Ancient Town, Chuzhou District, Huai'an District, Jiangsu Province, with convenient transportation and close to Beijing-Shanghai Expressway. We can take No. 61 bus to Wu Cheng'en's former residence, No. 60 and 62 to Zhuxiang Street, No. 8 and 69 to Hexia Ancient Town, No. 10 to Royal Wharf. It is a comprehensive cultural tourist attractions with celebrity commemoration, traditional education, cultural exposition, tourism and leisure.
